Shirley A. Hamilton, Director of Grants and Communications
Shirley Hamilton has worked with the EyeSight Foundation of Alabama since 2002, and as Director of Grants and Communications works closely with grantees from the initial inquiry, through the application and approval phase, during the term of the grant, and through the follow-up stewardship reporting, outcomes measurement and grant assessment. She also performs due diligence with each grant organization and application, looking carefully at the sustainability of each nonprofit organization and its projects. Ms. Hamilton serves as a liaison between the grantee organizations and the foundation’s Grants Committee and Board of Trustees.
A native of Trussville, Ms. Hamilton attended Birmingham-Southern College and the University of Alabama, and graduated from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. After a career in advertising and marketing, during which time she served as president of the Huntsville Advertising Federation and board member of the Southeastern Ad Federation, Ms. Hamilton joined the nonprofit world, leading a fundraising campaign to renovate the historic Princess Theatre for the Performing Arts in Decatur, Alabama. Her experience making the “asks” and writing grant proposals gives her a unique perspective now that she is on the other side of the grant process, and she applies her knowledge of layout, design and copywriting to EyeSight Foundation publications, websites and board presentations.
Ms. Hamilton has a passion for exploring new creative challenges, and has recently tackled pottery, fused glass jewelry, and silk painting, and has a 12-foot quilt frame in her den.
